GreenWood is a unique learning environment, from the world’s only people powered coaster to the first solar powered ride in the UK, not to mention our green credentials, being environmentally friendly has always been our mission.

We are predominantly suitable for school children up to and including year 6, and we welcome visits from pre-school, primary and middle schools as well as special schools.

A school visit to GreenWood is packed with adventure, fun and education.

Get your pupils out of the classroom and into an authentic educational adventure in the lush Welsh hills and natural surroundings of GreenWood Forest Park – with both guide-led and self-guided options!

Visiting GreenWood is a fantastic way to approach science in a hands-on way – seeing the effects of forces, materials and their properties etc for themselves.

The theme of sustainability runs throughout our educational materials – packed with conundrums and questions linked to the new Welsh National Curriculum to get your pupils thinking about the wider world and testing them with real-life examples.

Workshops

On offer we have:

  • Rollercoaster Ready workshop
  • Sustainability Matters workshop
  • Self-guided activity booklets
  • Pre and post visit lesson resources
  • Animal Welfare Workshop
  • Animal Care Workshop

How does a people-powered rollercoaster work
What materials work best for some of our most thrilling rides (and which don’t!)?
How can we enjoy our world whilst also looking after it?

These are some of the questions your pupils will be asked in a cross-curricular, hands-on way, whilst enjoying the activities and rides at Wales’ only ecological theme park.

Included in the GreenWood education programme

Pre and post visit resources to prepare and review their day at GreenWood, including curriculum-linked lesson plans, worksheets and Powerpoint slides and extension and support options.

Rollercoaster Ready workshop where pupils explore the technology behind two of GreenWood’s main attractions, learning all about how energy and forces can be used to help us have fun! They will take on the role of Ride Operators at the park, experimenting and testing out their theories about how to go faster!

Sustainability Matters in which the children will be learning about the importance of living responsibly and exploring the ways GreenWood achieves this. They will be recruited by GreenWood to audit their sustainability credentials, working in teams in a race against time to collect evidence from around the park

18 page Activity booklet for the visit, packed with lots of different curriculum-linked activities which can be picked and chosen on the day according to the level, age, learning focus for their class. Plenty of discussion points to take back to the classroom too for further investigation too.

Range of subjects touched upon – science, PSE, maths, English, Geography, EDSCG etc and a wide range of activities to suit all learning styles

Great way to meet EDSCG requirements and encourage children to consider their responsibility to the environment

Pupils can be creatively involved in their own learning – a great trip for Progression Step 2 where play is a serious business – a visit to GreenWood allows them to explore, investigate and problem solve whilst having fun.
