Celebrating 10 years of Solar Splash: The UK’s first solar-powered water ride

This year marks a very special milestone at GreenWood Family Park as we celebrate 10 years of Solar Splash – the UK’s first solar-powered water ride.

Since launching in 2016, Solar Splash has become one of the park’s most popular attractions, delighting thousands of visitors with its thrilling drops and splashes in the name of family fun. But what makes the ride truly unique is what powers it.

Using energy generated by GreenWood’s on-site 576-panel solar array, Solar Splash harnesses renewable power to lift the boats uphill before riders plunge down three thrilling water slides. It’s a ride that perfectly reflects GreenWood’s long-standing commitment to combining adventure with sustainability.

The environmental credentials don’t stop there. The water used on Solar Splash is sourced directly from a 250ft borehole beneath the park, helping to minimise reliance on external supplies while making the most of the natural resources available on site.

When Solar Splash opened a decade ago, it was a pioneering attraction and a bold statement about the future of sustainable tourism. Ten years later, it remains a shining example of how attractions can reduce their environmental impact while still delivering unforgettable experiences for guests.
