Make over for one of GreenWood’s original activities.

GreenWood Forest Park, Y Felinehli was established back in 1993, when the Park first opened there were just a few activities to entertain their visitors.

One of their very first projects was an activity called the half ton lever. This is where visitors can attempt to lift half a ton of concrete using a lever made from a tree. It was made in 1993 using a Douglas Fir tree.  Richard Thompson, a Bangor forestry graduate, built it and mixed the concrete for the half ton block.

Stephen Bristow, GreenWood’s owner said “Over the years it has been lifted at least half a million times!  We have had to replace the lever with a Douglas Fir tree from our own woodland 5 times, and this year we decided to make a new half ton block of concrete with new lifting steelwork, as the original was becoming very worn.”

The latest job was done by GreenWood maintenance workers Simon Ward and Brendan Brown, and the newly refurbished lever is now ready for another half a million lifts….  Come and have a go!
